Talakkad : The cursed town

Talakkad is a small sandy town on the banks of river cauvery. We reached Talakkad from Bharachukki falls. Talakkad is about 30 kms from Shivanasamudram. The roads are pretty good for most part of the journey, except at some places there are more potholes than the road.

We were all hungry and decided to have our lunch. We had our lunch on the lawns near the newly excavated temple. After our lunch we set out to explore the excavated temples of Talakkad. We kids, came here to enjoy in the river, but our elders told us that we need to visit the temples first. That was not easy. All the temples here were once covered in sand. The Archaelogical Society of India has excavated some temples. So this entire area is covered in sand and its very difficult to walk in sand. Never-the-less, our elders held out the river as carrot and we bunnies followed them. There's a old story about why this place is covered in sand. I will cover that in another post.

Our guide took us around to 4 different temples - 3 of them for Lord Shiva. Vaideshwara, Maruleshwara, Pathala Linga.

It was 4:30 PM by the time we were done with all the temples. We went to the river. The river bank is like a beach - sandy and shallow. However, please be cautious and do not be too adventurous. We got into our swim suits and headed to the water. We played water polo and enjoyed the water thoroughly. The river is clean and safe to play. My sister, Veda, was a little stubborn and didnt want to get out of the river.. like all of us. The sun was setting and we had to leave before it got too dark.
